How to run a successful paintball team building for your team

A good team building doesn't happen by accident — it's built from small decisions made before event day: what goal you're after, which field, which activities. At Paintball Hunter we've hosted over 200 teams for team building, in Chiajna, Ilfov — 5 minutes from Bucharest — and the patterns that separate "checked a box" from "the team is still talking about it months later" keep repeating. Here's what we've learned.

Step 1: set the goal, not just the date

Before you choose anything else, answer a simple question: why are you running this team building? Do you want people from different departments to get to know each other (icebreaker), do you want to surface informal leaders in the team (leadership), or do you simply want to reward a good quarter? The answer changes everything that follows. When you first reach out to us, that's the first thing we ask — team size, profile (technical, sales, mixed) and goal — and we recommend the right scenarios from there.

Step 2: pick the field that matches your team's dynamic

Not every field works the same way for every team. Area 51 — with real trams, trolleybuses and cars built into a 5,000 m² post-apocalyptic set — is explicitly recommended for corporate team building and complex scenarios: the vehicles give vertical cover and multiple firing points, ideal for groups of 15-40 people running more elaborate dynamics. Westwood, with its fully built Wild West set — Town Hall, safe, jail, barbershop —, is just as effective for smaller teams or departments who want a strong visual backdrop, including for the group photo at the end of the day.

Step 3: don't stop at paintball

Colleagues become teammates through shared objectives — on the field, communication gets stripped to the essentials, and the gear erases hierarchy: anyone can become a leader for the next 15 minutes. But the day doesn't have to stop at paintball or airsoft. On request, we add:

  • Squid Game — a test of self-control and attention to detail, including the classic "Red Light, Green Light"
  • Tug of War — the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts; if a single teammate lets go, the whole team loses its balance
  • Archery — the activity that calms the pulse after the adrenaline on the field, plus points-based tournaments between departments
  • Sack race — a bit of humor and nostalgia, to break the ice before lunch
  • Food & Bar — a dedicated area where the team unwinds over a drink and a hearty meal, talking through everything that happened on the field

What event day actually looks like

Arrival, a 15-minute safety briefing, then paintball or airsoft plus the activities you chose. At the end, if your team requested a facilitator, a structured debrief with observations about team dynamics — included in the quote for events with facilitation. The rest of the logistics are covered from the start: full gear (mask, overalls, vest, gloves, marker, loader), instructor and referee on the field at all times, catering on request through local partners, and a company invoice with e-Factura — because most teams come through HR or admin, who need a fiscal invoice, not a receipt.

Why paintball works as team building

It's not just about adrenaline. Every game scenario is a lesson in communication and collaboration, and sustained physical activity reduces built-up stress — the reasons why paintball has real benefits, not just fun ones. The feedback we get confirms the pattern. One recent participant wrote: "We came for a company team building with 25 colleagues. Excellent organization, well-prepared instructors, the day was a total success. We'll be back."

Flexibility: you don't have to book the whole package

We recommend a minimum of 10 people, ideally 15-40 for the best dynamic — but we can also host groups of 50-80, split into two consecutive slots on different fields. If a colleague has reduced mobility, there's an option: observable zones plus a "commander" role who coordinates the team over radio, without needing to run around the field. And you're not required to include every activity — paintball or airsoft stays the core, and the rest gets added based on your team's preferences. Our hours are Monday-Sunday 08:00-23:00, so a team building after office hours or on a free weekend is just as possible as one during the week. Because the number of activities, catering and facilitation vary from one event to the next, corporate team building runs on a custom quote, not the standard price list — tell us your requirements and we'll come back with an offer within minutes.

A team that plays together, stays together. It doesn't matter who wins the round — what matters is how the team learns to communicate, away from emails and Zoom calls. Frequently asked questions

How many colleagues do we need to run a team building?

Minimum 10 people, and for the best dynamic we recommend 15-40. For larger teams, of 50-80 people, we split the group into two consecutive slots on different fields.

Do we have to do all the activities — Squid Game, Tug of War, the rest?

No. Paintball or airsoft stays the core of the day, and the rest of the activities get added based on what your team wants.

Can a colleague with reduced mobility take part?

Yes. They have observable zones available, from which they can coordinate the team as "commander" over radio — we discuss the right setup during the initial briefing.

Can we run the team building on a weekend or after office hours?

Yes, our hours are Monday-Sunday, 08:00-23:00.
